Mainly Music has arrived at Bendigo Baptist Playgroups!

E-mail

Started in 1990, mainly music is a fun music group for parents or primary care givers to enjoy together with their young child. Throughout the morning, children develop gross and fine motor skills, language, imagination, mathematical and pre-reading skills as well as socialize with others. Each mainly music is associated with and is run by volunteers from our local church. Children are introduced to music, creativity and more, plus families given a chance to think about the God-part of life. Amazing to think that all this can be achieved in a loving, shared family environment. Give Louise Nott a call to find out more.

Playgroups

E-mail

Bendigo Baptist Playgroups are an activity of the Bendigo Baptist Church. We desire to provide Playgroups that are welcoming, caring, that provide a safe, friendly and stimulating environment where children can socialize, play and explore while developing new skills appropriate to their own level of development.

In addition, Playgroup provides an opportunity for parents and carers to share the company of others who are going through similar stages with their children. Friendships made at playgroup have the potential to last a lifetime.

Louise Nott co-ordinates the playgroups, she is a mother of 2 and holds formal Early Childhood qualifications. A dedicated group of parents leads each group. We have a time of set activities and free play every week followed by a time of music and stories as well as morning tea. We have a secure playground and large rooms for indoor play.

More than 13 000 people who have fled war, persecution or political strife in their troubled homelands have begun new lives in Australia .Burmese people who had been living in camps on the Thai-Burma border and in Malaysia and India were among the major groups assisted last year.

The Mae La camp started in 1984 as a small settlement for ethnic Karen fleeing violence in Burma. It has grown to be the largest of the nine refugee camps in the region. More than 9000 people from the camp have been resettled since then and a further 10 000 are expected to leave during 2008.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) estimates there are currently about 116 000 registered Burmese refugees and about 3700 unregistered refugees in nine camps along the Thai-Burma border.

As we reach out to all people of Bendigo, we are particularly focussed in 2010 on assisting the Karen refugees due to the large numbers that have settled here since 2007.
