Risk Taking

E-mail

C.T. Studd, a great preacher and missionary from another century once said, “The gamblers for gold are so many, but the gamblers for God are so few. Where are the gamblers for God?”  What are we risking our lives for?  We take risks in all kinds of areas (eg. Marriage, Travel, Investments etc) but often forget to take risks with God.  Lt’s take a few more risks for God.  I’d rather fail and make some mistakes serving Christ than run the risk of never having tried anything for God.

When we 'put our lives on the line'for God, what would otherwise be a gamble becomes calculated and deliberate risk coupled with knowledge of the eventual outcome. What is at risk is our ego, our physical safety, our friendships, our incomes, our family relationship, and much more. Gloryfying God is the hardest part of living I reckon. Sharing ourselves to God's standards sure does reduce us to dependency upon His grace and love, while similtaneously empowering us to greater things than we can imagine. God is glorified through us because (and whenever) we become as little children so that He can enable us to do His Will.
My appologies if that sounds a bit blunt, it is meant to be gentle and thoughtful.

Gambling for God must surely be an oxymoron. How can a Christian filled with God's Holy Spirit be gambling? Doesn't the presence of God's Spirit replaces the gamble with a requirement to exercise faith with obedience under God's guidance? Life stops being a gamble when we are certain of the end result ... those filled with God's Holy Spirit are eventual winners ie, they know the result already, so there is simply no gamble involved.

This is a good one Dave - often our willingness to take risks for God is based on our perception of how great/big/able He is. What a great God we serve - one who is patient with us and faithful in showing us in our lives how good He is so we can take baby steps (at least) to trusting Him more.
I too would rather fail stepping out & trusting God than succeed in standing still in my own strength.
