Monday Oct 31 Time is flying fast now in Cambodia. Sunday saw us attend church at New Life Fellowship in Phnom Penh. Leadership of NLF was a young man (Pastor Jesse) from USA. His father had started the church. Now there are over 1000 people in NLF with four contemporary services on a Sunday. It was great to see many Cambodians worshipping in Khmer together. The afternoon involved us packing, catching a flight to Phom Penh and settling into the Green Village Guest house.
This morning saw us clamber out of bed at 4:45 am to head out the famous Angkor Watt Buddhist temple. Seeing the sun rise over this 12th century architectural wonder was truly an amazing experience. After a quick bite of breakfast from a local roadside eatery we toured two other temple sites. We were amazed at the uniqueness of each temple and marveled at the engineering feat of such an accomplishment. The Buyan Temple was the setting for TombRaider 3. The banyan trees and their complex root systems were a sight to behold at this location.
The six of us are about to pile into a car and make the 2.5 hour drive to Anlong Venh in the Otdar Mean Cheay province to visit BWAA child centered community development project. Many of the communities in this province have been impacted by decades of internal strife. A recent survey conducted by FH Cambodia ( i.e. BWAA development partner in this region) indicated at 73.8% of families do not grow enough rice to feed their families for a year. FH Cambodia's primary strategy is to facilitate the formation of Village Development Committees. Their core object is to equip and empower village-level community leaders to promote the development and well-being of each child in their locality. Looking forward to hearing more about this and seeing FH Cambodia in action.
