'Devoted'

E-mail

The word 'devotion' has a number of different meanings that are attached to it. In one contex, it might describe the dedication of a person towards accomplishing a particular feat. In another setting, it demonstrates the love, commitment, or loyalty of one individual to someone else over a lengthy period of time. What are you devoted to?

This morning in my devotional time, I was reading 2 Peter 1:3-4 and reflecting on a particular promise of God for our lives. Peter says, 'By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life.' (2 Peter 1:3)  How do we unlock that divine power and promise from God for living our daily lives? I sensed God impressing upon me in the early hours of this morning that the answer to this was wrapped up in the depth of our personal relationship with Him. When we devote ourselves to pressing deeper into our relationship with our Heavenly Father, we find everything that we need for living life.

So what are you devoted to as you go about your day and week? Are you more devoted to getting to work than carving out some extra time to spend with God? Are you more devoted to chasing your hobbies than you are to developing an intimate aquaintance with your Creator and Savior?

The secret to living a happy successful joy-filled life is intrinsically connected to our devotion to God!

There have come times in my life when it has been necessary to reassess my goals, alliances and allegiances. What and/or who have I been devoted to and are those proving to be value adding. After assessing many accumulated scars and bruises from my ‘learning experiences’, clearly God’s formulae for living this life has proven to be infallible. Eventually seeking Him first provided automatically my hierarchy for devotion; God and His Kingdom first, wife second and everything else simply falling into place according to the strength of my devotion to the first one. By God’s grace I may live long enough to get it right and truly live ‘it’s not about me’.
